Beginners Vintage Dressmaking
(capelet) - Part 1
6 hour workshop
In this intensive workshop you will
learn how to make a simple vintage capelet. This
workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and
no sewing skills are necessary. It is a good foundation
for the Vintage dressmaking - Part 2 workshop
in which you will make the dress that goes with
You will be taught how to use a
sewing machine, how to lay and cut fabric and
then construct and line the capelet.
This course will teach you
Set up a sewing machine
Thread the machine
Wind the bobbin and set it in
Guide the fabric when sewing
Use basic sewing tools
Lay and cut out fabric
Identify markings and trace these
from pattern to fabric
and finish seams
Sew a collar
Creat buttonholes or other fastenings
Things you will need:
Fabric shears/scissors (especially if you are
left-handed), tape measure, box of dressmakers
pins, seam ripper, tracing wheel and tailors chalk/
You will also need to bring
with you one metre of the fabric of your choice,
one metre of lining, matching thread, 1/4 of a
metre of suitable weight iron-on interfacing and
one 3/4" button or frog closure.
You may also purchase one of
our fabric packs if you are unable to obtain your
own fabric. The fabric pack consists of fabric
and lining, interfacing and frog closure and costs
£10.00. The pack is be sold as a whole and
you will not be able to purchase individual items

a cheque. Your place will not be confirmed
until the cheque has been received and payment

All fees are non-refundable
in the event that you are unable to attend.
You may however be transferred onto another course
or to the same course on a different date (subject
to places being available).
Classes are limited to 10 students
and at least 3 students are needed to make a class.
In the event of under-subscription, classes may
be cancelled or postponed. We will give
you as much notice as possible should this happen
and you will be able to transfer to another
course or a receive full refund. We will
not be held liable for any out-of-pocket expenses
incurred as a result.
