Evening/bridesmaid Dress

£130.00

Intensive one day Saturday or 2 evening workshop

Need a party dress and can't find anything in the shops? Why not make your own? This one day intensive or two x 3 hour class will teach you how to make a simple party/bridesmaid dress. The boned bodice has princess seams with either a halterneck or strapless neckline, below mid-knee length flared skirt with back zip.

To enrol on this course you must be able to use a sewing machine and be familiar with seam construction and have some practice in sewing in a straight line. If you do not have these skills, please complete the sewing machine basics workshop before applying for this course.

The techniques you will learn in this class are how to:

      Insert boning

      Insert a concealed zip

      Attach a lining

Things you will need:  Shears/fabric scissors, tape measure, thread, seam ripper, box of pins and tailors chalk. You will also need to bring with you 2 metres (60" wide) of the fabric of your choice and 2 metres of lining, one 16" concealed zip, 1.6m (160cm) of 1/4" (6mm) wide boning and matching thread. A hook and eye will also be necessary for the halterneck dress.

Suggested Fabrics: Duchess satin, crepe, taffeta, satin back crepe, medium weight silk, silk cotton blends and shantung (not suitable for stretch fabric eg jersey).

You may purchase one of our fabric packs if you are unable to obtain your own fabric. The fabric pack consists of 2 metres of black satin back crepe, lining, concealed zip, boning and thread and costs £15.00.

Should you wish to make the dress again at home, you will be able to purchase the multi-sized pattern at the end of the class. The pattern includes 5 variations of the bodice and costs £10.00.
